O GOD OF BATTLES.
A hymn for use in time of war.
O God of Battles, God of grace,
Turn not from us Thy mercy’s face;
Our sins forgive-our prayers receive,
Hear Thou in Heaven Thy dwelling place,
And when Thou hear’st our cry, forgive.
O God of Faith, we trust in Thee,
That as of old, Thy help will be
With us, who in Thy care believe;
Hear Thou in Heaven Thy dwelling place,
And when Thou hear’st our cry, forgive.
O God of Hope, in Whom alone
We trust for victory to be won,
And bring our dear ones home to live;
Hear Thou in Heaven Thy dwelling place,
And when Thou hear’st, forgive.
O God of Love, give peace again,
Comfort and rest to those in pain,
The wounded soothe, the sick relieve;
Hear Thou in Heaven Thy dwelling place,
And when Thou hear’st, forgive.
To him who for his country dies,
An entrance grant to Paradise,
Tho’ dead to us-in Thee alive;
Hear Thou in Heaven Thy dwelling place,
And when Thou hear’st, forgive.
This hymn, composed by the Rev. Hon. B. P. Bouverie (brother of Lady Edith Cotes and the Hon. Kenelm Bouverie), Canon of Sailsbury, is sung every Sunday evening in Church. We hope our readers will use it also in their own private devotions during this time of national distress and anxiety.
