Red Cross War Work Parties

There were two work parties in Wing, Miss H. Tatham run one and the Countess Yarborough the other. Residents applied to the Work Party for materials to make the garments (patterns can be found here) and the women in these worked very hard. For example between November 1917 and May 1918 they made:- ‘143 pairs of socks, 39 shirts, 27 pairs of pyjamas, 27 mufflers, 3 helmets – Total, 239.’ We do not know how many the Countess of Yarborough contributed just that a ‘large number of garments had been sent’.
